Why You Need to Take Control of Your Life and Step out of Your Comfort Zone

To take control of your life you first need to understand your weaknesses in relation to your comfort zone.

When confronted with a challenge what do most people do? They come out with a whole lot of excuses…

“I’m too tired”

“I’m busy”

“I can’t do that, that’s for professionals!”

I’m sure we have all heard them at one point or another. They were as ineffective the first time as they were the 1000th time.

Never before have we had so much abundance but done so little in proportion. A whole demographic have consigned their lives to the couch.

The uncomfortable truth: That re-run of sopranos will always be there. You will NEVER have the opportunities that you have now. It’s time to take control of your life.

You will never be as young and invigorated with such energy. Free time will become less and less of an occurrence as you age. When children come into the fray they become a priority and your desires will take a backseat.

Until then, what are you waiting for?

7 Ways to make decisions easier and stop wasting time

Take control of your life

There will be no saving grace to come down from the heavens and smite you with a billion dollar idea.

Arnold Schwarzenegger isn’t going to bust into your room and yell “COME WITH ME IF YOU WANT TO LIFT!”.

Those things are fabrications that we get shoved down our throats.  They lull us into a false sense of reality to keep us in invisible chains – obedient and dumb.

When you stay in the sheep mindset you are easy to control and not a threat to anyone. Here at Rise and Claim we do things differently. I want everyone to take control of their own lives.

Stop going through the motions.

When you begin to accept responsibility for your actions something amazing happens. You begin to act in your own self-interest. Unless you are a masochist who takes pleasure in harming themselves.

You can’t blame the fast food company for being fat.

Or your friends for always asking you to hang out.

To take control of your life you need to understand that you have free-will and the autonomy to say NO.

You also have the autonomy to say YES.

Yes to smashing your weekly goals with no excuses.

Yes to sculpting your body into something you can be proud of.

The comfort zone

We each possess a comfort zone. They are the silent killers of discipline and determination. It is an area of life where we feel no need to improve our current standing.

Resting on your laurels can quickly lead to a return to bad habits. Bad habits eat away at us and try to wear us down.

This doesn’t have to be the case. There is an effective antidote to this process:

Always get yourself out of your comfort zone.

I know that getting out of your comfort zone is challenging but this is how you take control of your life. The rewards are worth it.

Not many people do it however.

Why? Because it’s hard, that’s why.

What happens when you step outside your comfort zone?

You get uncomfortable. Seems obvious but the concept escapes a lot of people.

What is so good about being uncomfortable?

In short you need to become comfortable with being uncomfortable.

When doing so you leave a state of inaction and enter into one of action. It is a land of unknown.

How to be more optimistic and conquer your negativity

Unknown things require the addition of knowledge and the supplement of wisdom to utilise them.

Time must be spent in the trenches. Energy must be given to that which we are unsure of.

The result of all of this is learning.

This process makes us more marketable and as we become more efficient at learning we are able to do amazing things with it.

Our proficiency can be refined repeatedly. So much so until we have the potential to be the best in the world at something.

We become more useful for our friends and those who need us the most.  When you begin to take control of your life other hungry people will be attracted to your energy and drive.

Pick from the tree of knowledge and eat it

As we digest the information and retain the nutrients we can reflect on the experiences it has given us.

We will never be the same again.

The quest for knowledge goes where the mountaintops are among the clouds and the legend of a hidden treasure in the woods makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

These sorts of tales were passed along for a good reason. It is our destiny to fulfil these stories in our own lives.

It is our job to go where others have not ventured.

“Born too late to explore the world, born too early to explore the universe.”

This saying can be used to either bring you up or crush you into a pulp.

Do you think that everything has been done and anything that hasn’t been done isn’t possible yet?

If so, we can sit back, relax and cruise off into the sunset. No problem right?

We shouldn’t wait to be able to go to Mars to find adventure.

It is of paramount importance that we instil in ourselves a sharp edge. Like a hunter who has went days without eating we must remain ever-hungry.

Every day is an opportunity to continue your adventure towards greatness.

Conquering our own battles

There is victory and improvement to be made in all areas of our lives – from our health to our relationships.

There are many mysteries that remain to be explored. Both within ourselves and in the outer world.

They may have been done by someone else but you, the individual reading this, have yet to do it.

Who knows what you could contribute to humanity. Each man has the capabilities to bring something unique to the table.

Some choose to do so and others will never see the light of day. We don’t know what our bodies are capable of until we push ourselves to the limit.

When we do this, surprise is often the emotion that is produced. Surprise at the fact that we were originally wrong.

The walls of our preconceived notions can be torn down. Brick by brick it will become clear that the biggest obstacle between us and our goals is ourselves.

Not the nagging boss or the telephone that won’t stop ringing.

Everything is a choice.

Each day, each lifetime is made up of individual choices. Do we make the right decision or the wrong decision?

Over and over again this will play out…

Each choice if chosen correctly, contributes to amass a legend that will be remembered for a longtime after he is gone.

The other option is someone who never amounted to much.

Which option do you choose?

This post was inspired by reading The Alchemist.

Paul Coelho uses his storytelling to paint the picture of why everyone should follow what he calls ‘your personal legend’.

Totally agree with you on that , that its time to step out of the comfort zone as youth never comes back and nor does time. I like most other people have been lazy when there was time and I was single and had time but missed out lots of opportunities and now I try to run after opportunities but time pulls me back as we age life gets more busy each day. Thank you for sharing .

Thank you Ramandeep. Indeed age does play a factor but we should be constantly fighting against it to remain as healthy as possible.

Sure it may get harder but that is what life is about.

A comfort zone is a net.

You are trapped, caught in so many layers of your own nonsense you can’t see how much life you aren’t living.

    Until you die.

    But you don’t have to.

Choice is the greatest gift we have.

Great comment Vincent. When we separate ourselves from our excuses we can finally start living.

Having too much of a safety net paralyses us into a state of inertia.

Yeah, I remember when I use to make all kinds of excuses why not this and that. I use to procrastinate on everything I thought about doing. But somewhere I just decided not to and I think it all stemmed from working out and riding bikes. It seems my motivation got stronger as I physically worked my body which took me to work my mind as well putting it into the challenge mode.

That’s a great insight Jordan. Exercise does incredible things for us humans.

Once we do it we find other stuff may not be as challenging. Working out gives us the confidence to take down the other obstacles in our lives.

Thanks for pumping me up and my 16 year old daughter too! She said, “Thanks, mom and immediately went to work out!” No joke here. I really love your words and everything you have to say. You are right, I know I am afraid to be uncomfortable and for what reason? It is plain crazy. Thank you for the inspiration. Definitely sharing this 🙂

    • Peter July 26, 2017 at 5:52 pm - Reply

Wow what great words! I am humbled that I compelled your daughter to go workout. Yes when we are uncomfortable it is a sign that we can grow. Growing means there are opportunities everywhere. Thanks for sharing it I appreciate it.

Glad to see your blog growing Peter 🙂
I finally need to stop lifting big weights and focus more on technique, I sometimes don’t leave my comfort zone because of my ego.

Thanks Philip! Yes this line of thinking can be applied to anything. Gym is a great one honestly. So many guys are doing shitty technique which doesn’t work the muscle properly and they also risk injuring themselves.

Very inspirational post indeed. I have always used my very demanding job as an excuse not to step out there. I feel limited in available time and physical ability but reading this post makes me want to get up and go. Seems I just needed to be inspired and that sense you have succeeded.

    Thanks for that.

    • Peter July 26, 2017 at 1:05 pm - Reply

Thanks for that Jean. I know it is tough especially with a demanding job. Realise that even a little bit extra everyday adds up.

Pick one thing that will make you better and work on it until it becomes second nature. Once that is in check add something else and repeat this until you are a learning machine!

Very inspirational post and I have to say I completely agree. So many people have never attempted at their desired accomplishments or dreams because they were too afraid to step out of their comfort zone. Yes, it is challenging but it is important we overcome it. We all have more potential than we realize. One of my things I need to do is take more risks and stop caring what other people think about me. I should do what I want and what I live without having to worry about others.

    • Peter July 26, 2017 at 11:23 am - Reply

Thank you Rob it means a lot. You are exactly right Rob it is sad to see people live out their days afraid of what everyone else will think of them.

That is what will separate the winners from the losers. By not caring about what anyone thinks we are left to our own devices. No one can stop us when we live our life on our terms.

Epic Post Peter. If most of us got out our comfort zone, we could achieve so much more everyday.

I wake up 5am, in the winter cold, to move my body everyday. It’s the most uncomfortable thing to do. But once I’m dressed, into my warm up jog 50{3711378c469cb0b0f2923e21da067e748d3928633920f885cee3cbec769ee698} of the discomfort is gone. When I’m at my 20th push up, 80{3711378c469cb0b0f2923e21da067e748d3928633920f885cee3cbec769ee698} of my discomfort is gone. Once I’m sweating and panting at the end of my work out, I’m pumped and unstoppable. Workout complete and feeling amazing.

Another great point you discuss about digesting Information is super important. We live in the information age and one of the best times to be alive. We should choose what information consume and USE this knowledge into action. If you don’t action it, its just another piece of information.

Look forward to the next post.

Thank you Vince I appreciate the feedback.

Wow your description of your exercise routine is great, you have really painted an excellent picture there. I also feel fantastic after I do exercise and wonder why I didn’t do it earlier haha.
Yes choosing what we take in is so important now. With such access to a wealth of information there is a lot of bad stuff out there as well. Knowing the difference is the important part.
