1 To de-stress
The gym is always known as a place where it is possible to de-stress. Here is my answer as to why you should go the gym.
It gives you the ability to unplug and take your mind off things. Whatever misfortunes happened today can be forgotten about temporarily which we should be grateful for.
For many, the ability to leave all their problems at the door for an hour is a unique opportunity. Without it they wouldn’t be able to achieve the balance between their health and their work.
When it may seem that everything else is crumbling around you, the gym can be the last place that doesn’t seem to be going the same way. It is a refuge for those looking to better themselves when all you need to bring is yourself.
2 Progress can always be made
This is a great reason for why you should go to the gym. It rings true for everybody, whether you are a professional bodybuilder, a complete noob or are currently injured. The beginner may have a greater potential for progress but the sheer variety of ways that progress can be made in the gym is substantial.
Going up in weight may be rare for the bodybuilder but there are other ways to measure progress. For example, rest times and number of sets or reps with a particular weight can all be used to measure progress.
Even how you felt during the workout can be a way of tracking progress. If you feel better doing the same workout than last time then you know that you are improving (it’s time to add some weight now)
3 The social aspect (if you need it)
The gym can be a great place to meet like minded people to socialise with. If you go to a decent gym, then you will be surrounded by many pro-active individuals who are seeking to improve their circumstances.
This is a great environment to excel in. Why you should go to the gym is because of the tight knit community present there. Here, everybody will support each other on the road to self-improvement.
If you are not one for talking at the gym, I understand. The gym is also a time for focus, which means for a lot of people not communicating with anyone but yourself. The good thing about the gym is that everyone respects everybody else’s need for space. There is no set routine that all members should abide by.
If you do find that people are pestering you, even if they may be good natured don’t worry. A simple trick is to just put in headphones. That way people won’t want to bother you (I hope).
4 Accountability is why you should go to the gym
When you make a public commitment to get into shape then your chances of continuing are greatly improved. When members see you improving, you will be less likely to quit. If each member keeps each other accountable it works in everyone’s favour.
Ultimately, getting in shape should be down to the individuals will to improve themselves. That way, they will be less inclined to quit should anything happen to their surroundings. For example, if you want to become healthier for your partner then that is good motivation to do so.
What happens if you break up with your partner? There needs to be some drive from within. It is only truly effective if you want to become healthier as well.
Some people need external factors to motivate themselves. Many find that their original extrinsic factors changed into intrinsic factors as they matured in their fitness pursuits.
Why you should go to the gym should be becoming more and more clear.
5 Home gyms are an option
Home gyms are awesome too. Public gyms may not be for you but home gyms could be different. They also provide your own place to wind down after a long day.
Unless you are working out with someone else however then you may be without a spotter. If you are a seasoned lifter who knows their limits well then this is no problem. It may not be the best idea attempting a 1RM benchpress on your own.
At a home gym you can play your own music as loud as you want. The ability to pick your own equipment is also admirable as well. Home gyms have the advantage of being able to be used whenever you want without the need of transport. The problem is that home gyms require the space to use them and a larger investment. Make the decision which one it is that suits you best and go for it.
6 You know you should (still wondering why you should go to the gym?)
Everyone know’s the benefits of going to the gym. If you have seen your body change in the mirror then I don’t need to tell you. Even if you just go in for 30 minutes then it is better than not going at all.
If you are still on the fence as to why you should go to the gym then think about how you would look and feel 6 months from now. Work every day towards that.
The great thing is that once you build momentum, going to the gym becomes much easier. When it becomes a habit and not a chore then missing days become less frequent and you begin to take control.
Just like brushing your teeth or shaving, working out should become second nature. Sooner rather than later you will then begin to relish each workout more and more. Everyone has bad workouts but it is how you react to them that sets apart the winners and losers.
7 You will feel bad if you don’t go
When you commit to going to the gym and leading a healthier lifestyle then you don’t want to miss any days. Human beings like routines and we thrive under them. That is why having a schedule allows us to stay organised.
The gym isn’t any different and sure, life may get in the way but consistency is always the best. When we know what we are missing out on it becomes harder to skip days. When you have experienced true progress then you crave it.
An opportunity to get better should never be wasted, that is why missed days are regrettable. The feeling after working out is incredible. The body gets a flood of endorphins and all our temporary worries disappear.
It is your duty to get in killer shape to represent yourself in the best possible manner. Those you interact with you will notice and appreciate that you take care of yourself.
Go to the gym once and keep going back. If that is all you do then you will get the hang of it at the very least. There is a wealth of information out there including Rise and Claim. Use it.
Of course once you begin going then the work has only begun. Making that first step is always difficult. The more time you invest in your body and health then the more you will look after yourself. Like a shiny new car.
Go to the gym, kick ass.
